Network Engineer at the Swedish Armed Forces

About the Unit

GE Syd conducts operations that ensure the Swedish Armed Forces' ability to communicate and lead, around the clock - year-round. The unit consists of over 180 employees distributed across 7 departments in 6 locations within the Southern Military Region (MR S).

Main Responsibilities for the Position:

As a network technician, you will work in a team consisting of skilled and experienced colleagues who will help you settle into the role in the best way. The tasks are performed both independently and in groups, and you will, among other things, carry out operations, maintenance, and incident management on clients and networks, as well as participate in the implementation of new IT systems in the Swedish Armed Forces. The position involves a lot of direct contact with users, so your social skills will be put to the test.

Examples of Tasks:

  • Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Operation, monitoring, and optimization of network environments.
  • Participation in planning and implementation of new IT systems and property projects.
  • Follow-up and documentation of changes in our documentation and case management systems.
  • Support to other technical areas in the team with troubleshooting and replacement of clients, servers, and other peripheral equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Work experience in IT/Networking or other acquired skills that the employer assesses as equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching.
  • Understanding of IT Security and Network Monitoring.
  • Good proficiency in spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • Driving license B with manual transmission (Sw).
  • Good physical ability.

Meritorious:

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet NSE.
  • Completed Military Service/GMU or experience from the Swedish Armed Forces, e.g., Home Guard.
  • Knowledge in Virtualization and/or Windows/Linux server environments.
  • Experience with firewalls Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or similar.
  • Previous experience in 1st or 2nd Line Support in larger IT environments.

Other:

Start date and salary according to agreement. The position is referred to as Network Engineer and is Civil. Location: Linköping. Travel occurs within the unit's geographical area, but also in other parts of the country. The position is a permanent employment and begins with a 6-month probationary period for those who are currently not employed within the Swedish Armed Forces.
